Handmade Notebook in Marbled Thai Momi Paper – Blue Kaleidoscope
At the heart of my bookbinding practice is a deep love for paper—the way it feels, moves, and tells a story.
This notebook showcases an extraordinary hand-marbled Thai Momi decorative paper in a stunning blend of blues, greens, teals, and golds, with subtle touches of black for contrast and depth, complimented with Mohair Green Japanese book cloth.
Each cover is a vibrant, one-of-a-kind composition, echoing the mesmerizing beauty of water and pigment in motion.
Momi paper holds a rich legacy in Thai culture, traditionally crafted from the inner bark of the mulberry tree. This centuries-old technique, passed down through generations, reflects both heritage and craftsmanship. The result is a naturally fibrous, textured paper that feels soft and cotton-like to the touch.
The marbling process begins with a base sheet of kozo and bamboo pulp, which is first machine-made, then transformed through an intricate hand-marbled and tie-dye technique. Oil-based paints are floated on water and swirled into unique patterns. The paper is carefully laid across the surface to capture the design, then crumpled and dried, giving it its signature texture and dimension.
This notebook is more than just a writing space—it’s a tactile celebration of tradition, artistry, and the endless inspiration found in the world of handmade paper.

I must say that I felt like I’d won a prize opening my package. And I’m keeping the note closed with sealing wax (that just took me back decades when I’d do the same). The book is as elegant as I’d hoped. I cannot wait to begin!

I don’t respond to fb ads. But for this I made an exception and so glad I did. After the Tomoe River debacle in Japan I was on the hunt for a new fountain pen friendly paper and notebook. I needed to test the paper and it passed my initial review. I love that these notebooks are hand bound and gorgeous.
I have purchased virtually every type of notebook from many, many companies over the years. This notebook is probably the best I've seen. The quality of construction, the overall design, the paper quality, etc. are top notch. The notebook is substantial and has a heft to it that makes it very durable. This is now my go to notebook.

I am a pen and notebook enthusiast.... and our favorite high school graduation gift is a moleskine notebook and a Lamy. This is our level up to the lovely adults in our lives - they have the fountain pens, this is the royalty of notebooks. The paper is thick, smooth and beautiful and the notebook well crafted, perfect size, and is (practically) perfect in every way. A gorgeous notebook that makes the recipient feel spoiled (so they say) in all the best ways. : ).
